About TeamAI CLI

TeamAI CLI by Tencent is a command-line tool that standardizes AI agent behavior across engineering teams. It distributes shared skills, rules, documentation, MCP configurations, and hooks through a git-based 'push, review and merge, pull' workflow. Teams define their AI governance in a shared repo, and every member's local AI tools — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, CodeBuddy, and others — stay synchronized. TeamAI also collects session learnings, parses codebase structure into a searchable knowledge base, and generates team digests for continuous improvement. 3,900 stars on GitHub as of September 2026.

Key Features

  • Git-based distribution of skills, rules, docs, and hooks across teams
  • Multi-agent support — Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, CodeBuddy, WorkBuddy, and more
  • Role-based access with tag filtering and project binding
  • Automatic experience sharing via friction-scored sessions (beta)
  • Codebase graph analysis and searchable knowledge base
  • Team digest generation and dashboard insights
  • Multi-source subscriptions for composing configurations
  • Open source, MIT licensed

Overview

TeamAI CLI tackles a growing pain in AI-assisted development: every developer on a team uses AI coding tools differently, with inconsistent skills, rules, and context. TeamAI solves this by treating AI agent configuration as a shared, version-controlled artifact — like infrastructure-as-code, but for agent behavior. Teams maintain a central repo of skills, rules, documentation, MCP server configs, and hooks, then distribute them to every member’s local AI tools through a familiar git workflow: push changes, review and merge via PR, pull to sync.

Key Capabilities

Team Execution is the core feature — it ensures every developer’s AI agent behaves consistently by distributing the same skills, rules, and hooks. Distribution controls include role-based access (different configurations for backend vs. frontend engineers), tag filtering, and project binding so configurations only apply where relevant. Multi-source subscriptions let teams compose configurations from multiple repos.

Team Context (beta) captures learnings from AI coding sessions, scores them by friction level, and promotes useful patterns into a searchable knowledge base. The codebase graph parser understands file relationships, making the knowledge base aware of your project structure.

Team Improvement (beta) provides session tracking, team digest generation, and dashboard insights to help engineering leads understand how AI tools are being used and where friction remains.

Use Cases

TeamAI is most valuable for mid-to-large engineering teams that have settled on AI coding tools but struggle with consistency. When one developer discovers an effective skill or prompt pattern, TeamAI makes it trivial to share across the team through the standard PR review process. It also serves compliance-oriented teams that need to enforce specific AI usage rules — content policies, code review requirements, or approved model lists — across all developers.

Considerations

TeamAI requires buy-in from the team — it’s a coordination tool, not a solo productivity booster. The Team Context and Team Improvement features are in beta and may evolve significantly. The git-based workflow assumes developers are comfortable with PR-based collaboration. The tool manages AI agent configuration but doesn’t replace the underlying agents — you still need Claude Code, Codex, or another supported agent installed.

Who It’s For

Engineering teams and tech leads who want consistent, governed AI agent behavior across their organization. Especially relevant for teams using multiple AI coding tools (Claude Code on some projects, Cursor on others) who want unified governance without vendor lock-in.
